Taiji Fisheries Association
The Taiji Fisheries Association is the local fishing association for Taiji in Wakayama, a small fishing town that sits near the southern tip of Japan's Honshu Island, in a rich natural environment surrounded by the spiritual mountains of Kumano. Taiji, known for being the birthplace of traditional whaling in Japan, looks out on a stretch of ocean where the Kumano tide and the warm "Kuroshio" tide collide, drawing a wide variety of fish and sea life. Taiji fishermen conduct small-type coastal whaling under the governance of the Fisheries Agency, as well as fixed-net fishing, tuna fishing, line fishing, and small-net fishing.
